A search function is always useful if you are in a hurry to find a specific file. If you rely on the standard search capabilities provided by Windows, it may take some time to find what you are looking for and the results might be inaccurate. With Copernic Desktop Search, you can instantly locate any file on your hard drive, regardless of size, type or format. The application provides various functions, which you can use to refine your search.

Copernic Desktop Search is available in Free, Professional and Corporate versions and it works on Windows XP (SP3), Vista and Windows 7. While installing the software, you can opt for typical configurations or make them yourself. Additionally, the setup wizard will ask you to specify an intended use, like home, business and so on.

The software will index your files automatically, if the system is idling for a certain period of time. You can type your keywords and select various search criteria, on the left side of the interface. The results are displayed instantly, in the larger area on the right. You may switch between different tabs to search for a specific type of file. The software allows you to search for music, pictures, videos, emails, contacts and other file types separately.

It is also possible to look for history files and favorite items, that were created with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Each tab contains different filtering options, which are specific to certain file types. You can use them to search for videos of a certain length, audio files with certain tag information, emails from a sender of your choice and so on.

Copernic Desktop Search can also integrate with the Windows taskbar. You can activate this feature in the general settings menu, where you can also choose what files, emails or browsers to index. Activating the program's integration feature will place a search query on your taskbar. When you type a keyword, in the new search box, the software will display the results on a small pop-up window, in the lower right corner of the screen. The window contains the same tabs, on which you can search for specific types of files. You can also use your keywords to perform a web search, on your default browser. The web search option can be found on the main interface, as well as the pop-up window.
